PIC's Outreach Parent Liaisons offer workshops around the state on rights and responsibilities under IDEA, on the IEP process and on creating better communication with the professionals who work with our children. Several disability specific workshops are also available, as are workshops on other issues such as siblings, friendship and parental self-esteem -- all focused on how these issues affect a family that is faced with disabilities. PIC publishes a BI-monthly newsletter, PIC's-N-PIECES, which is mailed to nearly 3,600 Wyoming households, schools and professionals. The purpose of the newsletter is to disseminate information on programs, services and issues that concern parents. PIC's-N-PIECES is free to Wyoming parents. Professionals and others interested in receiving the newsletter are asked to pay a subscription fee of ten dollars ($10) a year. A free handbook published by PIC and the Wyoming Department of Education to help parents become confident and effective participants in the special education process. PIC offers free informational brochures to families and service providers on a variety of disabilities and on subjects of interest to families of children with disabilities. A list is available of the titles currently in our file. If you need a brochure on a subject not listed please let us know. PIC maintains a database of parents who have volunteered to provide support to other parents. This list can be accessed to connect parents with other parents in a community, or who are dealing with similar disability issues. PIC also maintains contact with national and international organizations who specialize in connecting parents whose children have the same disability or condition, and with several national disability information sources. Please contact us to get the name of a parent you can connect with in your area. PIC's extensive lending library of books, videos and audio tapes is available to parents and professionals.
